“Sea of Life” Film Screening and Discussion March 22, 2018
In celebration of World Water Day, the SPEC Waste Committee and Jericho Sailing Centre will be screening the award-winning documentary Sea of Life, by Julia Barnes. The film will be followed by a Q&A session.
About Sea of Life:
“Right now what’s happening in the ocean is largely out of sight and out of mind. Sea of Life is about to change that. Filmed over three years in seven countries, Sea of Life dives into some of the most spectacular ecosystems on the planet, exposing both the destruction that’s happening in the ocean and the efforts underway to stop it. Creating a world that’s beautiful for all species will require the greatest heroes of our generation to rise up and tackle the biggest challenge the world has ever faced.”

About SPEC:
The SPEC Waste Committee takes action to divert products from the waste stream by advocating for three main components:
- Reducing waste
- Re-using
- Recycling
Some of the many projects they run towards achieving these goals include:
- The Master Recycler program: an 8-week class where students learn about local waste streams and become certified Master Recyclers.
- Green2Go: A research project gaging the capacity for restaurants to shift towards reusable, compostable, or recyclable take-out container alternatives.
The Waste Committee is one of three SPEC committees working towards a mission to provide the community with practical solutions for urban sustainability. For more than 45 years SPEC has brought a range of environmental concerns to the attention of policy makers, industry and the public. Through its public education and advocacy work, SPEC has built a lasting legacy of environmental protection.
