Safety Notice – Low Water Level Hazard

The above image is the area between ramps 3 and 4 at close to a zero tide. In the red oval is the top of a concrete wall that is coming through the sand on either side of ramp 3. The red arrows are pointing at an old wooden wall and pilings, both treated with creosote. The wood is breaking down over time and the tops of these are sharp. These hazards are considered dangerous at tide levels under 4 feet or 1.22 meters.
Upcoming Low Water Levels (<4′) of concern:
Date / Time / Level
June 11 / 0919H / 4.0ft 1.210M
June 12 / 1002H / 2.4ft 0.737M
June 13 / 1046H / 1.1ft 0.346M
June 14 / 1133H / 0.2ft 0.075M
June 15 / 1221H / -0.02ft -0.059M
June 16 / 1309H / -0.02ft -0.053M
Foiler Alert!
Foiling Craft at Jericho can draw more than 1m (3.3′) of water when they are not foiling and we recommend launching between Ramps 2 & 3.
GVRD Stage 3 Water Restrictions Now in Effect
Fresh water barrels in the compound to help with equipment rinsing

💧 Here’s how we’re staying compliant (and still getting things done)
🚫 Hulls & sails: strictly off the spa menu
No washing of hulls or sails is permitted. Most hose stations have now been retired from duty.
Instead, embrace your inner ocean purist: a saltwater rinse, a good splash, or a heroic towel wipe-down after your session will do for now.
🪣 “Fancy buckets” have entered the chat
Fresh water barrels have been placed near hose locations in the yard (see map below).
These are not for luxury spa treatments – they’re strictly for rinsing safety-critical bits like: blocks, shackles, pins, foils, universal joints, and standing rigging.
🚿 One hose to rule them all (almost)
The plaza hose station will remain operational during JSCA office hours (0930H–2100H), but only for safety-related rinsing. Likewise, the rainwater-fed hose station at the southeast corner of the building will be available for limited, purpose-driven use in the coming days.
🚤 Safety comes first
Coaching, safety, and rescue craft may use limited water for engine flushing and essential maintenance only.
Our school partners will still be using tubs of water for rinsing wetsuits and PFDs.
🌊 Ramps stay clean (because slipping is not a vibe)
We’ll continue power washing the ramps to keep everyone safe and upright.
🚿 Humans: still allowed to be clean
Good news: both indoor and outdoor showers remain fully operational. Yes – washing people is still absolutely permitted.
🙌 How you can help (aka: be a water hero)
- Report leaks ASAP – running taps and sneaky drips are the enemy.
- Channel your inner zen master with water use – even when it’s allowed, keep it mindful.
- Taps off = community points earned (not official currency, but still valuable).
We’ll keep you updated as things change. Thanks for helping conserve water and keeping everything running smoothly – and for being great at adapting on the fly.

As the action heats up starting this week, come and support your favourite teams on or off the water in front of the TV in the Member’s Lounge – whether that’s a dramatic match, a tight finish on the racecourse, or just a few minutes of highlights.

English Bay Safety Seminar – In Person Monday July 6
Never take water safety for granted
Jericho Sailing Centre users share Vancouver’s largest playground with Canada’s busiest port and are required to know and exercise the “rules of the road” while recreating in this area. Users should be aware of shipping lanes, ships transiting between the lanes and anchorages, and Traffic Control Zones. All non-commercial vessels shall stay well clear of commercial vessels including ships at anchor.
Why make your own mistakes when you can learn from the mistakes of others? The English Bay Safety Seminar helps keep Jericho users safe while at play on the waters of English Bay. The seminar covers basic water safety fundamentals along with user specific information drawn from the logs of the Jericho Rescue Team who have intervened in thousands of “sea disasters” over the past 50 years.
Sail the Slideshow on our Website or RSVP with the JSCA office to attend our in-person seminar on Monday July 6 at 1900H.For more Safe Boating information check out Transport Canada’s Safe Boating Guide
Traffic Control Zone 1 Around First Narrows is a Jericho Style Craft No-Go Zone.

Safety Notice to all non-motor power craft users in Vancouver
“All pleasure craft and sailing vessels must be under mechanical power when transiting through the First
Narrows traffic control zone. It is prohibited to enter or transit through the First Narrows traffic control zone on board a personal watercraft, including jet skis and non-motorized vessels, such as sailboats, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards.“

Jericho Sailing Centre Etiquette

Common courtesy goes a long way towards making sure that everyone’s experience at the Jericho Sailing Centre is a positive one. Remember swimming is prohibited from the beach between the pier and the rock groyne East of ramp 4, dollies need to be returned to their spots after launching, and high traffic areas such as hosing stations must be made available for other users immediately after use. Whether you are new to our facility or a life-long user, it is a good idea to review common etiquette here on our blog.
On the Water-Safety is Your Responsibility
