This summer the Jericho Sailing Centre is supporting the UBC SailBot programme as a launch and recovery venue while they develop Polaris, their autonomous sailboat. All on-water testing is done tethered to a support boat. Watch out for the Sailbot team this coming weekend.

Safety Notice – Low Water Level Hazard
Users of the Jericho Sailing Centre should be aware of hazardous wharf remnants protruding from the seabed in the areas shown below in red between ramps 2 and 3. At 0′ tide they are just under the sea surface. Any time the water level is below 4′ users should proceed through this area with extreme caution.
At tide levels below 4 feet (1.22 m), several hazards become exposed between Ramps 3 and 4, including a concrete wall emerging from the sand near Ramp 3 and remnants of old creosote-treated wooden walls and pilings. These deteriorating structures can have sharp edges and should be avoided.

Foiling Craft at Jericho can draw more than 1m (3.3′) of water when they are not foiling and we recommend launching between Ramps 2 & 3.
2026 Jericho Sailing Centre Bailif Auction – June 20 at 1200H
The Jericho Sailing Centre is holding a public auction of abandoned storage property consisting of Jericho style craft (ie sailing dinghies, SUPs, Kayaks, Windsurfers etc) accessories and locker contents on Saturday, June 20, at noon. For a complete itemized list and photographs, visit our website.
Owners of this equipment are able to settle unpaid storage balances right up until auction time. As a result advertised items may not all be included in the auction. If you recognize any of the items as yours, please contact the JSCA office right away. In a perfect world we would not want to sell anyone’s stuff.
New Kayak Specific Launch Dollies
Two shiny new kayak-specific launch dollies have been added to our fleet to help members move kayaks between the storage racks and the beach. We’ve placed one at each end of the compound. Please return them to the fence after use so they’re available for others. Let us know what you think. If they’re well used and prove durable, we’ll consider adding more.

Free Rookie Racing Seminar Saturday June 20 at 1900H
Always wanted race but are confused by all the flags, horns, marks and the rules? This seminar will go over all of this for you and give you enough information to get out on the start line at one of our regular series. Held Saturday evening so that you can get out on the race course during Sunday Racing the following day. This seminar is free for JSCA members but registration is still required. Please call or email the JSCA office to register.
Water Restrictions – Thanks For Your Continued Cooperation
Thanks to everyone for helping us navigate the current water restrictions. Your cooperation is making a real difference.
A few reminders:
- 🚫 No washing of hulls or sails. Most hose stations have been turned off. A saltwater rinse and towel wipe-down will do the trick for now.
- 🪣 Freshwater barrels are available near hose locations for rinsing safety-critical equipment such as blocks, shackles, pins, foils, universal joints, and standing rigging (see map below).
- 🚿 The plaza hose remains available for safety-related rinsing only. The rainwater-fed hose station at the southeast corner of the building is also available for limited use.
- 🚤 Coaching, safety, and rescue craft may use limited water for engine flushing and essential maintenance.
- 🌊 We will continue power washing the ramps to keep them safe.
- 🚿 Indoor and outdoor showers remain fully operational for personal use only. Equipment is not to be rinsed under the showers.
You can help by reporting leaks promptly, turning taps off completely, and using water thoughtfully whenever it is needed. Thank you for doing your part to conserve water and keep our community compliant. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and cooperation and will provide updates as restrictions evolve.
2026 Jericho Women’s Regatta June 26 – 28
This will be a great opportunity to connect with the community of women and non-binary sailors in BC. Sailors of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to participate. The event is open to ILCA-7, ILCA-6 and ILCA-4; International Tasar; International Martin 16; RS Quest; and X-Class. Additional dinghy or catamaran fleets with more than 5 boats may petition the race organizers for inclusion.

Fancy Footwork & Fast Foiling Cats – Watch from the Member’s Lounge
Roger and Stewart catch a little soccer fever on the water. All the big soccer action and this weekend’s Halifax SailGP broadcasts can be viewed on the TV in the Sailor’s Lounge.
Away from all the crowds and fuss downtown, the TV in the JSCA Member’s Lounge is available for members and their guests to enjoy live sports broadcasts, including international soccer fixtures and SailGP racing coverage.
Come and support your favourite teams on or off the water – whether that’s a dramatic match, a tight finish on the racecourse, or just a few minutes of highlights.
JSCA Represented at First iQFoil Canadian Championship
Mirabelle Woo, Daniel Solodchenko and coach Jonathan DeVries represented JSCA at the first ever Canadian iQFOil championships hosted by BC Sailing and Royal Vancouver YC last week. It was a diverse field of competitors ranging in ages from 60 to 17 ranging from Olympic veterans to relative newcomers. Congratulations to Mirabelle (pictured above) as she will be representing Canada (and JSCA!) at the World Youth Worlds this December.
HotJazzJam Suspended Until Further Notice
The HotJazzJam series of concerts is suspended due to unforseen circumstances. Vancity Hot Jazz Society and the Jericho Sailing Centre would like to thank all the patrons, volunteers and performers who have participated in the series to date. Hopefully these will pick back up in the future.
Transport Canada Interim Order for the Protection of the Southern Resident Killer Whale 2026
Transport Canada has issued new rules around boating near mammals in our local waters. A vessel must not approach within 1000m of a Southern Resident killer whale.
Minimum approach distances around other marine mammals in local waters:
All other orcas: 200m
Resting whales or calves: 200m
Other whales, dolphins & porpoises: 100m

Jericho Schools Open for Lessons and Rentals to the Public
All three schools at the Jericho Sailing Centre are open to the general public for rentals, lessons, season’s pass and youth camps.
Jericho Beach Kayak
Rentals, lessons, youth camps and season pass, tours, community paddles, trip planning and VHF radio programmes for kayaks and surf skis. For bookings, youth camp registration and more information, paddle over to the Jericho Beach Kayak website.
MacSailing
Registration for dinghy youth and adult learn-to-sail lessons and youth camps as well as canoeing, rentals, beach sports and ecological education programmes is open now. Reach over to the MacSailing website for more information.
Windsure
Rentals and lessons for windsurfing, windsurf foiling, winging, wing foiling, stand-up paddling and skimboarding – including youth camps is open now. Surf on over to Windsure’s website for more information.
Galley Patio and Grill – Open Seven Days a Week
Open to the public, The Galley restaurant is now serving seven days a week and will be open until 2030H-2100H. Come see the off season improvements (bigger ice cream selection!) and enjoy a meal on the patio with the best view of Vancouver in Vancouver.

English Bay Safety Seminar – In Person Monday July 6
Never take water safety for granted
Jericho Sailing Centre users share Vancouver’s largest playground with Canada’s busiest port and are required to know and exercise the “rules of the road” while recreating in this area. Users should be aware of shipping lanes, ships transiting between the lanes and anchorages, and Traffic Control Zones. All non-commercial vessels shall stay well clear of commercial vessels including ships at anchor.
Why make your own mistakes when you can learn from the mistakes of others? The English Bay Safety Seminar helps keep Jericho users safe while at play on the waters of English Bay. The seminar covers basic water safety fundamentals along with user specific information drawn from the logs of the Jericho Rescue Team who have intervened in thousands of “sea disasters” over the past 50 years.

Traffic Control Zone 1 Around First Narrows is a Jericho Style Craft No-Go Zone.
Safety Notice to all non-motor power craft users in Vancouver
“All pleasure craft and sailing vessels must be under mechanical power when transiting through the First
Narrows traffic control zone. It is prohibited to enter or transit through the First Narrows traffic control zone on board a personal watercraft, including jet skis and non-motorized vessels, such as sailboats, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards.“

Jericho Sailing Centre Etiquette
Common courtesy goes a long way towards making sure that everyone’s experience at the Jericho Sailing Centre is a positive one. Remember swimming is prohibited from the beach between the pier and the rock groyne East of ramp 4, dollies need to be returned to their spots after launching, and high traffic areas such as hosing stations must be made available for other users immediately after use. Whether you are new to our facility or a life-long user, it is a good idea to review common etiquette here on our blog.

On the ocean there are elements of risk that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce. Regardless of how you decide to use the ocean always show courtesy to others. Please adhere to the code listed below and share with others the responsibility for a safe ocean experience
