Multiple teams of 8 to 10 race against each other in voyageur canoes. Teams can compete in just-for-fun or competitive heats. Just-for-fun teams compete in one race. Competitive teams race against other boats in an initial heat, fighting for a place in the semi-finals and finals. Teams in the finals compete for a coveted Day of the LongBoat trophy and UBC Intramurals championship shirt.

The event also includes a festival of games, a live and roaming MC, DJs, and prize giveaways at the Jericho Sailing Centre.
